It’s one of Battersea Park Rotary Club’s biggest day of the year and takes six months to
organise, but their annual Christmas Day party was yet another massive festive hit.
The London-based Rotary club on the banks of the River Thames has been organising this
event every Christmas day since 1962 for all elderly people in the London Borough of
Wandsworth who would otherwise be alone on this special day.
The event has grown from 40 guests to 400 guests over the years, with 300 volunteers on
hand to to help the Rotarians serve a three-course Christmas lunch with all the trimmings
and to dance with their guests.
Himanshu Jain, Rotary in London’s District Governor, attended this special party, as well as
MP Fleur Anderson and the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Sana Jafri.
Senia Dedić, Battersea Park Rotary Club’s Secretary and Rotary Christmas Day Co-
ordinator, heralded the 2024 event as a major success. She said: “We were overwhelmed
with praise for our club, for helping elderly over the years, especially now in the high cost
of living crisis.
