Rotary is at the heart of every community throughout the world and the heart of Rotary is our clubs – people who share a passion for both community service and friendship.
Rotary, as a non-religious, non-political organisation is able to unite people from across the globe to exchange ideas and take action in communities around the world. The collective leadership and expertise of the 50,000 members in Great Britain & Ireland, and our 1.2 million members worldwide, helps us assist with some of the world’s biggest challenges.
In London area alone there are over 60 clubs, of which the Rotary Club of Battersea Park and other Rotary clubs in the Wandsworth area – Balham, Putney, Tooting and Battersea – are some of the most active, particularly at Christmas.
Community service is the traditional and well-known face of Rotary. It covers help and advice to the aged, disabled, the infirm, young people, children, and those in need either directly or by supporting local charitable organisations.
International service promotes international goodwill. It includes emergency aid and practical help to disaster areas, medical support to remote towns and villages, vocational training for young people, facilities for schools in underdeveloped areas, water filtration units where pure water is urgently needed, assistance in the eradication of diseases such as Polio and the prevention of Malaria, plus many other projects which help bring a better quality of life to people around the world. These are some of the projects members of Rotary in this area participate in throughout the year.
All this with the aim of bringing a better quality of life to people in our local area, and beyond.
